Day 7! No burying the lede, the game was released.

Final TODOs

Firstly I finished off my last few todo items from the list posted yesterday. A few final pieces of polishing, and some more level layouts.

Playtesting and Bugfixing

I had some reports coming in from my friends, and I played through the game myself. I rebalanced everything to give the game a hopefully reasonable level of challenge.

I spent a long time trying to sort out some bugs around selecting and using abilities. I ripped out the whole charge-tracking system and rebuilt it using polling instead of events, but that didn’t really fix anything (helped me to be more certain it wasn’t a dumb bug hiding there). In the end it was two related things, a bug in the implementation of some abilities so they weren’t actually firing, and a bug in the player firing code so abilities weren’t getting used. Quite frustrating, got there in the end.

In the end I decided to release when I had the game in a good state rather than working up until midnight or whatever.

Time Spent

I worked about 6 hours today. My time tracking system broke down a little bit but I was just working to get finished anyway. I unironically think this week is the hardest I’ve worked in my adult post-university life (no one tell my current or former employers).

Next Steps

Sleep 24/7. Then probably start another game project…
