Although Advance Wars 2 is really good, I ended up putting it down. The problem is as the campaign goes on the battles become larger and more complex, and generally longer. I find I have the most fun on smaller battles that can be done in a short amount of time, rather than a long slog. These long battles usually end up lacking really strong tactics too and become "fight efficiently and churn out units to counter what the enemy is doing" until you win, rather than any interesting strategy.
